Our Team this time…

Not necessarily in order:

Kelvin, Paco, Dillon, Travis, Lynn, Lexie, Stacy, Miss Drew, Miss Garcia, Miss Angelo Neal, Mary, Scott, Brenda, and myself.

What a day!! This was not your ordinary FMP!!! God was in control but we were certainly NOT! I think we need that lesson sometimes. We like to live in the illusion we have some control. God is not a safe God and we need to be reminded of that. Today we were REMINDED!

As you may remember we no longer had a place to feed the homeless after last month. The city of Denver is tearing down our old ministry building we were using. Our beloved sister and fellow worker (Mary) had found us a place to launch this month’s FMP from. It was quite a ways from downtown and Stacy and I had scoped it our yesterday. We became concerned about how to get homeless to it because it was too far to walk from downtown. We arrived early and went in to the building we thought was the place. It turned out to be a church that was meeting there. The elder (a very nice man) explained that they had no real homeless in that neighborhood and did not really need a feed there. We could not reach Mary by phone because her cell phone had died. We were all standing around waiting in the parking lot when she called us from a payphone and explained that the Matthews Center was more than one building and we were in the wrong one. We finally connected with her and her friends. She and her friends went looking for some homeless to feed. I was pretty certain there were no homeless in the neighborhood and I was getting pretty antsy about it. Paco gave us a good word and explained that we should all relax and God would provide for us and we should not rely on our own means and control. THANK you Paco! He was RIGHT of course. We all unloaded and then had a prayer for God to give us hungry people or take us to them.

Mary showed back up and sure enough she had found SEVERAL homeless a few blocks away but too far to walk. We decided to split into teams and one team stayed at the facility and prepared food and the other team took food and drinks and Bibles and headed to the area to serve the homeless there. From the moment we rolled up it was a MADHOUSE. There were about 10 homeless visible at first and within minutes the place was swarming. Mary parked her van illegally and started feeding chili right from the road. We parked across the street and brought over hotdogs (pre-wrapped by our prep team) and chips and cookies and all the other side items as well as toiletries. During the mad rush we ran out of dogs and headed back to the prep base to get more from our prep team there. We took what was ready and agreed to meet the prep team at the feed site in a few minutes when they had completed prepping the remainder of the food. Paco and I took the dogs and more chips that were ready and zoomed back to the feed site marveling out loud about how God was in control and provided all we needed once again.

We met the rest of the feed team back at the feed site and continued serving as fast as we could while some of the team there started talking with some of the homeless and building relationships there. Our prep team showed up soon after with the remainder of the food and we served until everything was gone. We met so many wonderful street people (a different crowd then we had known from our previous locations). Please pray for Kenneth, Mark, John, Tom, Derrek, Bo, and many others whose names God knows.

We finally began packing up and said our farewells to our new friends and to our team members.

Today we fed hotdogs, chips, cookies, pies, brownies, chili, cheese, coffee, bottled water. Special thanks to Mary and her team for organizing this.

Thank ALL of you again who prayed and who continue praying for this ministry!!

We also gave out Bibles. Please pray for those people who took them to find wisdom and God’s Love in them.

Please contact any of us or Dan Thoemke if you have ANY items for next time (pants, coats, shirts, sweaters, gloves, socks, hats, scarves, backpacks, shoes/boots, duffels, sleeping bags/blankets) or if you would like to come along or donate toward the food. PLEASE pray about our efforts and especially for these people listed here!!! Prayers do not cost you ANYTHING!!

Matthew 25:35-42 (New International Version)

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37 Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40 The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Thanks!
